What are we looking for?

You will be an experienced editorial all rounder. You might tackle news, writing, editing, interviews, features, proofreading and other journalism according to clients needs, and for our own publications. You may do a bit of project management, and you’ll be expected to contribute to internal writing, meetings and other projects where appropriate.

We are willing to consider freelances who can take on an occasional feature or project here and there, as well as do shifts for days, whole weeks (or even months!) in our London or Edinburgh office.

Your writing will be accurate, lively and interesting. You will have real eye for a story, and the ability to tell it in a compelling way. Vitally, you will be confident interviewing people both over the phone and in person, and then telling their story in a moving way.

In your application you need to demonstrate how you meet the following criteria.

Necessary criteria

  • Your will have professional, formal, vocational or equivalent journalism / writing / editing / proofing training or qualification from a recognised body.
  • You will have at least two year’s experience writing for magazines, newspapers, brochures, companies, organisations or similar. And not 10 years ago. It must be recent.
  • You have experience writing on the charity, social, ethical, environmental or similar issues that ngo.media specialises in.
  • You have experience managing complex writing jobs, meeting tight deadlines and writing to specific briefs.
  • You are available to work for us during proper working days. We never commission writers who ‘do a bit on top of my job at weekends and in the evening’.
  • You are fully up to date with modern communications and IT, Windows/Mac platforms, email, internet, telephone conferencing, instant messaging etc. No luddites please!
