Radio: Network Manager, Babcock
Key responsibilities are:
Supervision of day-to-day operations, services and functions carried by the MMC Operations Room.
To be the MMC Supervisor’s out of office hours representative and a point of reference on all content delivery and operational matters affecting the MMC, providing specialist and expert advice to management.
Maintain operational standards according to agreed procedures and service level agreements.
Responsible for the implementation of short notice transmitter cover in the event of breakdowns occurring at remote sites, under agreed procedures.
Evaluate the impact of all faults or risks to the availability of the content delivery chain and to make decisions regarding operational response.
To communicate or escalate service-affecting incidents to the appropriate contacts and customers.
Undertake the first line maintenance of MMC equipment and systems, implementing alternative facilities or strategies to maintain service output in the event of faults or breakdowns, and to escalate second line support procedures when appropriate.
Responsible for initiating ‘out of hours’ call-outs (MMC and transmitter sites) and implementation of safety procedures.
Liaison with various service providers and external contacts, providing a technical co-ordination role in fault situations and other emergencies.
Implementation of the agreed Broadcast Continuity plan in the event of total failure of service.
To be a part of the Line Management for the team of Network Operators and responsible for the overall performance of the shift. To carry out the performance management and appraisal process and to provide “on the job” training for new recruits.
Ensure that Babcock Communication’s health and safety guidelines and policies are followed at all times.
It is essential that you have:
HNC/HND in a relevant subject.
Extensive experience in an operational environment (Broadcast, Telecommunications, IT Service Management).
It is desirable that you have:
Knowledge of Broadcast operations and associated technology as applied to HF broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, internet and multimedia.
Broad understanding of IT processes and networking.
Knowledge of world geography, and general interest in current affairs and the media.

Radio: Operations Manager, Radioplayer
UK Radioplayer Ltd is a not-for-profit partnership formed by the BBC, Global Radio, GMG Radio, Absolute Radio, and RadioCentre. Its aim is to help grow radio listening on connected devices.
‘Radioplayer v1’ was launched on March 31st 2011, aimed at improving the user experience for radio on personal computers. This initial incarnation of Radioplayer has about 7 million unique users a month, and features live, on-demand, and podcast audio from more than 300 stations.
Following launch, we moved on to build ‘syndication and discovery’ features for Radioplayer v1 - a Facebook Radioplayer app, a Google Chrome extension, and an installable Adobe AIR app.
We’re about to release a host of new features to improve Radioplayer v1, including better search, more reliable streaming, and more flexible ingest of podcast and ondemand content. We’re also developing versions of the model for IPTVs, mobiles, tablets, and hybrid radio devices.
The role of Operations Manager is a new one, aimed at strengthening the small team running Radioplayer. As we launch new products and services across multiple platforms, it’s crucial that we have the resources to manage those products properly, and maintain the quality of the user experience.
UK Radioplayer Ltd is a ‘bare-bones’ operation. We don’t measure our success by our headcount, but by how big our impact is, relative to our size. The successful candidate should expect to work extremely hard across a huge range of disciplines.
