The Electric Word parenting portfolio encompasses a growing range of sites and products. My Child’s mission is to help parents support their child’s learning and to make learning fun, providing practical information along with a range of interactive activities as well as access to parent-to-parent and expert advice. Our primary focus is on education but we also cover behaviour, health and general parenting issues.
Reporting to the divisional manager, the online editor is responsible for the direction, creation, maintenance and quality of our editorial content, on our websites, in ezines and in a range of other products that we publish. This content includes news and articles, activity sheets and project packs, printed material and eBooks. This is a small team, and the editor is also strongly involved in the promotion of the sites through PR, search engine optimisation and online networking. The editor is expected to contribute ideas and work with the marketing, advertising, web development and customer service staff, and must have good people skills.
The ideal candidate is somebody who understands, through their own experience, what parents need. You will have a good knowledge of the education system and be evangelical about wanting to help parents understand it, positioning My Child as an authority with consumers, industry and the media. You will be an excellent commissioner, editor and writer. You will also be a natural networker with a passion for online communication, eg through blogs and Twitter. You will be commercially minded and flexible, and accept that this is a business where change and learning is fundamental. Finally, you will have bags of energy and have no qualms about mucking in and doing everything you can to ensure the parenting portfolio grows.

Responsibilities

Educated to degree standard, you have a background in publishing, with strong project management and project delivery experience. - Help co-ordinate our publishing activity with other publications, in terms of media sponsorships and exchange arrangements
- Prepare exhibition materials such as posters and pop-up stands
- Help deliver our electronic publishing content
The candidate selection process will have two stages: a skills test to be conducted on Thursday 1st of September and an interview on Monday the 6th of September.
